We all realized that we're in a down economy and that with
budget cuts, we have less resources for both people and animals.
Recently, our Govenor has reduced the mandatory holding period for stray
animals. There is no holding period for adoptable animals at all. Sacramento
County has recently announced that they are no longer able to house as many
animals due to resource and staff cuts. They are no longer able to hold strays
beyond a mere 3 days. More animals than ever will need to be euthanized.
So what does this mean for A New Hope and
Placer County?
It means that our volunteers are now critical to make sure that Placer
County homeless animals don't fall victim to rising euthanasia rates. We are
now direct partners with the shelter and critical
advocates for the homeless animals.
When you walk a dog - it directly relieves the animals stress and keeps them
"adoptable" in a crowded facility. Less animals are euthanized and more
adopted by keeping the kennel stress down. We also bond with those dogs and
it helps them to get adopted.
When you handle handle a cat - it directly relieves their stress and the
more we know about our cats, the more we can help the public with their cat
adoptions!
When our volunteers give their time at the shelter with laundry help,
cleaning help, etc. - it directly relieves a shelter staff worker of a duty
so they can focus on the critical duties of animal care and intake. This
means they have more time to care for more animals.
When you submit a recipe, volunteer at an event or help with a fundraiser,
it directly helps us to help more animals - with medical care, kongs,
rawhides, training, ALL THE PROGRAMS WERE PROVIDING FOR ADOPTIONS (they all
cost money). It helps us to offer the community free resources like crates
for the displaced victims of the 49er Fire.
When you foster an animal, you directly save a life, providing a much needed
refuge, training and greater opportunity to find a forever home.
When you send good wishes - it directly helps us to keep going, keep helping
and supports the other volunteers.
A New Hope volunteers help so much that our management has not had to resort
to housing less animals so that their care is not jeopardized.
All A New Hope volunteers are needed more than ever and are critical to the
lives of homeless animals,
Thank you,
