A New Hope Animal Foundation

How You Can Help

Thank you very much for your interest in volunteering with A New Hope Animal Foundation. We’re a dedicated group of volunteers who enjoy working together for the betterment of animals, especially those animals who find themselves in our local animal shelters. We appreciate any time or effort given and believe that volunteers are very important. Whether you can spend an hour a month or you have more time to volunteer, together we can make a difference for the homeless animals. A New Hope’s focus is on the homeless animals and animals in need of rehoming in Placer County but we also serve the surrounding areas as well.

A New Hope Animal Foundation relies on the generous support of volunteers and public donations. Donations are tax-deductible and all proceeds go to help the animals. A New Hope works to enhance the lives and improve the adoptability of Placer County homeless animals with community programs and events.

There are many ways for you to volunteer to help make a difference in the lives of companion animals:

·   Mobile Pet Adoptions: Both trained teens and adults help to socialize the animals to better facilitate lasting adoptions. Every Saturday, volunteers host a mobile adoption event at Petco on 1917 Douglas Boulevard in Roseville from 11:00 till 3:00. Volunteers are needed to help handle the animals, provide adoption counseling and be available to help answer questions for the public.  We also attend other adoption events as they are available. Mobile Pet adoption events also provide excellent socialization for the animals

·   PetLOVE: Dog Walking and Animal Socialization at the Shelter. Volunteers are trained to walk and socialize the animals at Placer County Animal Services. We provide the animals the extras (bones, blankets, toys  and training) that help lessen the animal’s stress while in the shelter.  A New Hope works with the animals to help them learn basic obedience commands, to walk gently on a leash and to give humans their attention to enhance their chances of adoption. We also take pictures of the animals and put them along with friendly biographies on Petfinders as an alternate way of promoting the shelter and foster animals. To be involved in PetLove, you must attend an orientation meeting at the shelter and be escorted for your first time.

·   Foster Home Program: Foster homes provide animals with the additional support to prepare them for their new homes. We provide loving, temporary homes for the animals who need some extra help to get adopted, whether due to their age, sickness or breed or behavior challenge. A New Hope provides the tools and equipment necessary to foster and training guidance. We may also foster animals when Animal Services is full.

·    Disaster Preparedness Training: Trained through all major disaster response organizations. A New Hope has responded to: 1997 Floods, 2004 Stevens Fire, 2006 Ralston Fire and to the 2005 Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

·   Shelter Animal Holiday Wishing Trees at Local Vet Clinics. Each year, the Wishing Trees help to supply the much needed treats, toys and supplies for Placer County Animal Services.

·   Lend A Hand: Shelter Improvement and Support Projects

·   Sponsor of Local Spay Days and Other Low Cost Spay Neuter Programs

·   Administration A New Hope needs accounting expertise, public outreach person (writing thank you letters, etc.)

·   Grant Writing  Grant Writers are needed to help apply for the grants for which apply to our mission.

·   Fundraisers: (including bi-annual Sale by the Pond for Animals July 17-19, 2008 and holiday Wishing Trees during the holiday time). The Sale by the Pond are our main fundraisers and we need people to help sort, collect donations, man the sale, etc. For the Wising Tree, we need help making ornaments, collecting goodies from the Vet and taking the items up the shelter.

·   Donations: blankets, food, toys and rawhide bones to Placer County Animal Services

If you would like to find out about our many volunteer opportunities or how to make a donation for the animals, please contact Lynn Howe at 916.652.4164 or email us at info@anewhope.net
