Volunteering with A New Hope
Volunteers are very important to A New Hope and we offer a variety of ways to volunteer to help the animals! Whether you'd like to walk dogs as part of the PetLove shelter program or help at an event, together we can make a difference for our homeless animals! Here are some of the ways you can help:
Every Saturday, volunteers host a mobile adoption event at Petco on 1917 Douglas Boulevard in Roseville from 12:00 till 2:00. Volunteers are needed to help handle the dogs and rabbits, provide adoption counseling and be available to help answer questions for the public. We also attend other adoption events as they are available. Mobile Pet adoption events also provide excellent socialization for the animals.
Dog Walking and Animal Socialization at the Shelter. Volunteers are trained to walk and socialize the animals at Placer County Animal Services. We provide the animals the extras (bones, blankets, toys and training) that help lessen the animal’s stress while in the shelter. A New Hope works with the animals to help them learn basic obedience commands, to walk gently on a leash and to give humans their attention to enhance their chances of adoption. We also take pictures of the animals and put them along with friendly biographies on Petfinders as an alternate way of promoting the shelter and foster animals. To be involved in PetLove, you must attend an orientation meeting at the shelter and be escorted for your first time.
We provide loving, temporary homes for the animals who need some extra help to get adopted, whether due to their age, sickness or breed or behavior challenge. A New Hope provides the tools and equipment necessary to foster and training guidance. We may also foster animals when Animal Services is full. We provide weekend fostering for the shelter animals also! Visit the Fostering Information page for more information and applications.
A New Hope offers foster dog training classes for foster parents, volunteers and prospective adopters on Sundays in Loomis. With relationship-based training using positive reinforcement, dogs learn to give their handlers their full attention and are desensitized to the presence of other dogs. Visit the Training page for more information on Foster Dog Training.
A New Hope Animal Foundation also responds to local disasters (such as fire and floods) and works in partnership with Placer County to set up temporary animal shelters during those disasters.
Including the annual Happy Tails Cook book sale, annual used Book Sale and holiday Wishing Trees during the holiday time.
Grant Writers are needed to help apply for the grants for which apply to our mission.

Scooter was part of a court case for neglect and came to the shelter in senior years emaciated, with bleeding sores, several infections, and barely able to walk. Foster mom Kris painstakingly nursed Scooter to a more healthy state. Unfortantely, Scooter passed away. But thanks to the extreme effort and dedication of his foster mom, his last days were spent full of love, comfort, and care. Helping an animal, even for a short time, can an immeasurable difference in a life.
Volunteering with A New Hope can give you plenty of hands on time working with the shelter animals directly, but this isn't the only way to help. ANH is grately to supporters like Kelly, who gave skin treatments in exchange for a donation to help the animals. Through her hard work and generosity, she raised $800 to aid the cats and dogs in the shelter.
